Last Monday, Dr. James Joyce shared his insights on astronomy as a liberal art, leaving the audience with the challenge to "look beyond the stars" as they headed off to the field in order to view the night sky. We are grateful to the North Shore Local Astronomy Club for sharing their enthusiasm, expertise, and equipment with all of us as we were able to see Saturn, the Moon, the Andromeda Galaxy, the Pleiades, and more. The violins have arrived and students are learning all there is to know about caring for, handling and playing this beautiful instrument. What a blessing it is that we are able to offer three 30-minute violin lessons within the school week. Music is foundational to classical education, initiating them into musical arts through active participation and developing their ability to appreciate a world of culture which must be preserved. Playing an instrument develops in our students discipline, form, and attention, and develops an innate sense for resolving discord into harmony.
